BR5-49: Chuck Mead (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Don Herron (vocals, steel guitar, pedal steel guitar, banjo, mandolin, electric mandolin, fiddle, viola, organ, Hammond b-3 organ); Mark Miller (vocals, acoustic bass, electric bass); Shaw Wilson (vocals, drums); John Keane.
BR5-49's second record after both a major line-up shift (most notably the departure of co-founder Gary Bennett) and a switch to the Dualtone label, DOG DAYS finds the country-rock group settling into Phase Two of its existence. As on 2004's TANGLED IN THE PINES, vocalist/guitarist Chuck Mead is the chief creative force of the self-professed "hillbilly" band, leading BR5-49 through odes to the storm-ravaged Gulf Coast (the thoughtful "After the Hurricane") and Nashville (the sauntering "Lower Broad St. Blues"), among other fine tunes. Although the ensemble has been pegged with the "alt-country" tag in the past, this album solidifies BR5-49's standing as a straightforward, traditionally minded country band.
